Made With Something In Footer

Almost every web designer or developer consider themselves as modern-day artisans – myself included. Often at the end of a project, you may find a little bit of writing and a link saying something along the lines of ‘Made By etc’ or the more trendier one is ‘Made with etc’, perhaps even followed by the ‘Made By’ text.

This has become industry standard and is something almost all designers or developers to and it usually tells people that;

1. They made the site.
2. They are proud of the site.

It also is sometimes used or used in conjunction with provided credits for libraries used or other people involved in the product – but usually, there is a separate credit page for that.

How does it help the builder?

In reality, it doesn’t and I am sure there might be people who disagree with me or have thought of something that I haven’t but most of the time it’s just a signature for the builder, however! If used correctly it can help the Designer or Developers SEO.

If the website in question is a Carpenter’s website, then the ‘made by’ link can actually point back to the designer/developer’s website but to a specific page that has content related to building carpenter’s websites. This link then will be deemed more relevant by Google and it will potentially boost the designers/developers SEO.

How to do it?

There are a couple of ways that you can actually achieve the ‘Made By’ signature and you also don’t need to stick to the ‘Made With Heart’ signature..

I usually use the Ionicons library to achieve this, so you will need to enqueue the style by adding the following to your functions.php file.

// Enqueue Ionicons style.

function azzaio_enqueue_ionicons() {

    wp_enqueue_style( 'ionicons', '//' );

add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'azzaio_enqueue_ionicons' );

The Markup

Then you simply need to build the markup where you want the signature to be by using the following markup;

<p class="made-with">Made with <i class="icon ion-heart"></i> by <a href=""></a></p>

Obviously, feel free to modify this markup how you see feet but this is a good example to use.

To style the icon, you just need to add the following to your stylesheet;

p.made-with i {
   color: #ff0000;

Don’t feel that you need to limit yourself to just using the heart icon, you can definitely have fun with it and you also can see a complete list of Ion Icons at

Simply click on the icon you want to use and it will display the class, swap that class out with the ion-heart in the above markup.
